2000 Australian Kendo Foundation International Open Tournament
Results of the 2000 Australian Kendo Foundation International Open Tournament, held on 5th
and 6th of February at Picton High School.
Held under the supervision of Founders Rex Lawley and Ron Bennett, supported by
sensei Michael Payne, James Fennessy, Yoichi Yano, Damian Carmody-Stephens In addition to shields for
each event dedicated to the founders of Australian Kendo, the tournament also featured three
magnificent trophies from the Korean Kumdo Association, in the care of Master Choi, for:
Most Oustanding Player, dedicated by Young Dal Kim, Vice President, Korean Kumdo
Association - presented to Hayami Aboutaleb.
Best Player, dedicated by Jae Wook Lee, President, Korean Kumdo Association - presented to
Takashi Itakura
Fighting Spirit, dedicated by Jong Rim Rhee, Korea Kumdo Sun Saeng - presented to T. H. Kim.

The final lasted over 9 minutes of high quality kendo.

Womens Pairs (held over from the December 1999 NSW Championships)
1: Sydney (Halgath, Tsuda)
2: UNSW (Obeid, Ivancvik)
In addition there was a exhibition match between Brett Smith and Yuji Sano of the Australian Team
Other Awards
Sharyn Wragg was presented with the John Butler Sensei Shield for fighting spirit
Aden Steinke was presented with the Geurillot Sensei Shield for spirit of kendo.
